The NPS Concession Program is working with the NPS Human Resources and Employee Development Programs and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to formalize a concession certification process. The goal is to have a certification process recognized as a requirement for advancement within the Concession Program by the end of calendar year 2004 and to:

Develop on a long-term basis a highly qualified workforce capable of performing current and future concession contracting and contract administration functions in a consistent manner.

Meet current and future NPS needs for concession personnel and provide qualified replacements for senior concession positions on a planned, systematic basis.

Empower employees by providing a direction for development, opportunity for training, and knowledge of how to competently complete an array of specialized tasks.

Strengthen the accountability of concession contracting and contract administration.
