The National Park Service Concession Environmental Management Program (CoEMP) was created under the national Concession Program in 1999 to encourage improved environmental management and stewardship by those businesses (concessioners) that are contracted to provide commercial visitor services in our national parks.

CoEMP Mission
"To provide assistance and guidance that advances the environmental performance of businesses offering visitor services in national parks."

The CoEMP established four main goals to advance environmental management within the Concessions Program:
  • Achieve and maintain environmental compliance as a minimum performance level for concessioners in national parks.
  • Promote environmental management and advance sound environmental strategies for all concessioners in national parks.
  • Increase NPS staff and concessioners awareness and knowledge of environmental topics and programs.
  • Lead by example and promulgate recognition of commercial visitor services that demonstrate environmental excellence.
